A Typical Day of Therapeutic Activities
|
Morning
- Breakfast
- Daily Goal Setting/Community - Community is provided to all
patients, and is designed to address problems encountered in daily
living on the unit. Daily goals will be established to provide
direction and motivation for continued treatment.
- Spiritual Connection - A voluntary non-denominational group
designed to focus on the spiritual aspects of treatment needs.
- Leisure Skills - The group involves introduction to leisure
time activities that teach the patient how to arrange time to allow
for recreation, how to enjoy recreational activities, and how to
creatively devise new recreation endeavors.
- MHA Education Group - The group is conducted by a mental health
associate and varies in content. The education group focuses on
health care topics such as taking medications to life skills groups
such as planning a home budget. They will remain content specific
and didactic oriented in format.
- Focus Group - The group is designed to provide specialized
therapeutic groups based on the individual needs of the patient.
The types of groups provided are anger management, assertiveness
training, communication skills, self esteem, grief/abandonment,
female and/or male interest, and stress management.
Afternoon
- Lunch
- Psych Education Group - The group provides information about
common mental health illnesses and assist patients in developing
coping strategies while encouraging them to share experiences with
the group.
- Experiential Therapy - The group uses a wide variety of
expressive exercises to assist patients in their search to discover
new resources for coping with traumatic events and provides a
structure for the development of a positive sense of self.
- Nutrition Education - The group is conducted by a Registered
Dietician designed to teach patients healthier eating habits, and
to provide individual consultation based on the patients individual
dietary needs.
- Recreational Therapy - The group affords the patients the
opportunity to sharpen their interactional skills and develop
cooperative abilities through participation in a variety of
recreational activities.
- CD Group- The group is conducted by a Certified Chemical
Dependency Counselor and is a "focused discussion" on the issues
patients face on their road to recovery. Topics include family
issues, triggers, the change process, and treatment options.
Early Evening
- Dinner
- Recreational Therapy - The group affords the patients the
opportunity to sharpen their interactional skills and develop
cooperative abilities through participation in a variety of
recreational activities.
- Personal/Group Recreation - A designated group where patients
are afforded the opportunity to select the type of recreational
activity.
- AA Meeting - A support group meeting which allows individuals
to tell their "story" of alcohol dependency. The 12 steps of AA are
followed and discussed.
- NA Meeting - A support meeting which allows individuals to tell
their "story" of drug dependency. The 12 steps of NA are followed
and discussed.
Night Time
- Wrap-up/Goal Resolution - A group in which each patient reviews
their goals of the day and reports on their completion. Problem
solving skills are taught, and the patient receives feedback
regarding their goals.
- Lights Out
