A Typical Day of Therapeutic Activities -
Adolescent Services

Morning
- Breakfast
- School - The academic needs of the patients are provided by
certified teachers who are employed by the Jefferson County Public
School System.
Afternoon
- Lunch
- School - The academic needs of the patients are provided by
certified teachers who are employed by the Jefferson County Public
School System.
- S.T.A.R. CD Group - The group is conducted by a Certified
Chemical Dependency Counselor and is a "focused discussion" on the
issues patients face on their road to recovery. Topics include
family issues, triggers, the change process, and treatment
options.
- Social Work (Therapy) Group - The group is conducted by a
Certified Social Worker and focuses on the problems which brought
the patient to the hospital. The group is open ended so patients
may be continuously added and graduated.
- Psych Education Group - The group provides information about
common mental health illnesses and assist patients in developing
coping strategies while encouraging them to share experiences with
the group.
Early Evening
- Dinner
- S.T.A.R. CD Group - The group is conducted by the Youth
Services CD Coordinator and utilizes a team building approach to
addiction treatment for adolescents. The group content focuses on
the change process, family dynamics, triggers, and peer pressure
related to addiction.
- Recreational Therapy - The group provides expressive and
physical outlets for reduction of anger, social skills/building,
self-esteem building, and stress management.
- NA Meeting - A support meeting which allows individuals to tell
their "story" of drug dependency. The 12 steps of NA are followed
and discussed.
- Psych Education Group - The group provides information about
common mental health illnesses and assist patients in developing
coping strategies while encouraging them to share experiences with
the group.
- AA Meeting - A support group meeting which allows
individuals to tell their "story" of alcohol dependency. The 12
steps of AA are followed and discussed.
- Recreational Therapy - The group provides expressive and
physical outlets for reduction of anger, social skills/building,
self esteem building, and stress management.
- CD Family Education Group - The group is conducted by a
Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, and focuses on
co-dependent behaviors and patterns, as well as interventions are
explored.
Night
- Relaxation/Personal Time - Designed to provide patients an
opportunity to reflect on the days activities.
- Lights Out
