A Typical Day of Therapeutic Activities - Adolescent Services

Morning

  • Breakfast
  • School - The academic needs of the patients are provided by certified teachers who are employed by the Jefferson County Public School System.  

Afternoon

  • Lunch
  • Journal Time - The patient is encouraged to use a journal as a means to express personal feelings and thoughts to be expressed and sorted through. The journal book is considered the patient's personal property and responsibility.
  • CD Recovery Group- The group is conducted by a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor and is a focused discussion on the issues patients face on their road to   recovery. Topics include family issues, triggers, the change process and treatment options.
  • Psych Education Group - The group provides information about common mental health illnesses and assist patients in developing coping strategies while encouraging them to share experiences with the group.
  • Social Work (Therapy) Group - The group is conducted by a masters prepared social worker and focuses on the problems which brought the patient to the hospital. The group is open ended so patients may be continuously added and graduated.
  • Music Therapy - The group provides an alternative means of communication and allows patients to experience typical psychotherapy in a different way. The goals of the group include emotional expression, positive mood changes, social interaction and support, as well as insight-oriented experiences through the use of music.
  • Art Therapy - The group provides an alternative means of communication and allows patients to experience typical psychotherapy in a different way. The goals of the group include emotional expression, positive mood changes, social interaction and support, as well as insight-oriented experiences through the use of art.
  • Medication Teaching - The group is conducted by a Nurse and provides education related to medications including possible side effects, correct administration, and food/drug interactions.
  • Recreational Therapy - The group provide expressive and physical outlets for reduction of anger, social skills/building, self esteem building, and stress management.

Early Evening

  • Dinner
  • Second Step - The group utilizes a series of curriculum studies designed to reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior and increase the level of social competence.
  • Community Goals - The group assists patients in developing daily goals and techniques to achieve their goals. Review of the goals at the end of the day helps provide positive support to enhance self-esteem when goals are accomplished and explore obstacles to goals that are not accomplished.
  • Recreational Therapy - The group provide expressive and physical outlets for reduction of anger, social skills/building, self esteem building, and stress management.

Night

  • Relaxation/Personal Time - Designed to provide patients an opportunity to reflect on the days activities.
  • Lights Out
