Ten Broeck Hospital offers highly structured Senior services
that are devoted to meet the unique needs of older adults who are
experiencing problems with psychiatric illnesses, emotional
problems, and/or substance abuse. These programs are designed to
provide the highest level of direct patient care that is possible,
which includes physical, social, spiritual, medical and
psychotherapeutic treatment interventions. These programs also
focus on treating exacerbated symptoms associated with Alzheimer's
and dementia; such as depression, irritability, combativeness or
aggression, non-compliance with medication or need to re-evaluate
current medication regime.
Treatment & Discharge
Planning
Before admission to any of the Senior programs, patients receive
a comprehensive assessment of their mental, physical and spiritual
needs to determine the most appropriate level of care. The
treatment team, led by the attending psychiatrist, develops an
individual treatment plan for each patient and meets regularly to
review each patient's progress and to update treatment goals. Ten
Broeck Hospital recognizes that recovery and healing is a lifelong
process and therefore, discharge planning begins upon admission.
The treatment team works closely with each patient to set realistic
goals for continuing care following treatment and makes available
information or referral for further services as necessary.
Inpatient Hospitalization
Services
Ten Broeck Hospital inpatient services include a broad range of
therapeutic and evaluative services. Our professional treating team
at Ten Broeck consists of Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social
Workers and Activity Therapists. This enables us to provide
individualized care. Within 24 hours of admission patients are
given a full nursing, medical and psychiatric assessment. Social
workers conduct initial assessments on all patients in order to
develop a comprehensive discharge plan.
During their stay, patients are involved in therapy groups to
continue the assessment of cognitive and functional abilities. Upon
completion of clinical assessments a multidisciplinary team meets
daily to coordinate individual care. Families are prepared in
individual and group sessions to help them with placement issues,
as well as with the anxiety and frustration of dealing with an
aging family member who is experiencing mental health issues.
