Ten Broeck Hospital offers a highly structured, Extended Care
program that utilizes a multi-disciplinary treatment model. This
program is designed for male and female children, 3 to 12 years of
age, who require long-term intervention services with specialized
therapeutic attention given to emotional, behavioral and
psychiatric issues.
The Extended Care Program provides a safe, secure setting with
the highest quality of direct patient care. Patients in the
Extended Care Program typically stay 1 to 3 months. The Extended
Care Program is specifically designed for the challenging child who
has previously been treated in acute care settings but continues to
exhibit dysfunctional behavior patterns.
- Safe milieu with 24-hour skilled nursing care;
- Thorough evaluation by a multidisciplinary team (nurse, social
worker, activity therapist, special education teacher,
pediatrician, dietitian, and psychologist);
- Psychiatric evaluation by a child psychiatrist;
- Pharmacological intervention as indicated;
- Development of a Master Treatment plan by a multidisciplinary
team;
- A behavioral reinforcement system that is designed to
correspond to the patient's progress in treatment;
- Group therapy, play therapy and psycho-education groups dealing
with issues related to grief and loss, children of alcoholic
parents, drug education, feelings, anger management, problem
solving, sexual abuse, self awareness, life skills and others as
indicated;
- Individual psychotherapy with a child psychiatrist;
- Family therapy and family education groups;
- School, with individualized academics provided by special
education teachers.
- Comprehensive Discharge Plan with specific aftercare
arrangements.
