Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Program

Ten Broeck Hospital uses the Recovery Dynamics method in treating chemical dependency issues.   Recovery Dynamics breaks down the 12-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous into units described as "group sessions", and provides the counselor with word meanings and interpretations of the ideas and terms found in the "Big Book". These groups sessions have been carefully sequenced so that any client who completes the treatment program will have worked the steps of recovery found in the textbook of Alcoholics Anonymous. This program consists of procedures that occur in a precise sequence and are designed to bring about recovery.

Ten Broeck Hospital offers a structured Intensive Outpatient Ambulatory Detox Program that utilizes the brief psychotherapy model along with specialized medical services for treating chemically dependent adults ages 18 and over. This program is designed to provide psychological/physiological stabilization to ensure safe withdrawal from psychoactive substances in a specialized therapeutic environment.

The Ambulatory Detox Program

  • Medical evaluation and intervention by a physician.
  • Pharmacological interventions as indicated.
  • Routine physical exam, lab or EKG by a family medical physician may be required if patient has not had a routine physical exam within the past year.
  • Thorough assessment by a registered nurse experienced in the assessment and treatment of chemically dependent individuals.
  • Daily monitoring of vital signs and patient education by a registered nurse. Early introduction to the 12-step program.
  • Daily supportive psycho-educational groups and individual sessions as indicated.
  • Daily supportive and educational groups for family members and/or significant others.

Following evaluation and stabilization in the Ambulatory Detox Program, an appropriate referral is then made for the patient to continue treatment in a less restrictive level of care.

Ten Broeck Hospital's Alternative Services offers less restrictive levels of care in the following programs:

  • Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Program.
  • Intensive Outpatient Relapse Prevention Program.
  • Outpatient Therapy Network.

Ten Broeck Hospital's multilevel delivery of chemical dependency services allows for the opportunity to address all aspects of the patients' treatment needs. This multilevel delivery system provides the patient the unique opportunity to receive the continuity of care which will enhance a more effective treatment outcome.
